Verifying that your Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is current is an important thing to do when you are a CNA. The companies that you work for expect you to keep your certification up-to-date and that you will continue to renew it when necessary. The state expects CNAs to renew their certificate yearly by paying a renewal fee and sometimes completing educational requirements. You are expected to keep your certification current because it is one way that you can keep in touch with what's going on in the medical community. CNAs who are current on medical care trends are more likely to get new jobs and raises from current jobs.
Instructions
1. CNA school.
Contact the school or organization that where you received your certificate. They can look up your certificate and let you know if it is still valid by looking up the date that you attended the classes on. If you do not have a copy of your certificate, they may be able to help you obtain a copy.
2. Call your local Nurse's aide registry.
Call your local Nurse Aide registry. The Nurse Aide registry is the state agency that keeps track of all nursing certificates. Give them your certificate information over the phone and they can tell you if your certificate is valid. You can look up your local Nurse aide registry at the the Nurse Aide registry website that has a complete list of registries.
3. Request the paperwork.
Request the paperwork that you need to fill out to obtain a copy of your certificate. Having a copy of your certificate helps verify your certification with potential employers. You can do this by asking for a copy over the phone with the registry or requesting it in writing.
4. Fill out the paperwork they send you in blue or black ink. All official documents usually use black or blue ink, so that the copier machines can make better copies of the paperwork. Make sure you include all pertinent information such as where you got your certificate and any other questions the paperwork might ask of you. Send the paperwork back with the proper payment amount. Fees for getting a copy of your certificate varies from state to state. You will receive a copy of your certificate in the mail and you can use this to verify your CNA certification with employers.
