London's top-ranked colleges grant a variety of degrees.
London is home to several highly ranked colleges and universities, including three schools ranked among the U.K.'s top 10 universities by both The Guardian and The Times. These schools offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide variety of fields, and can prepare students for careers or further research and education in almost any field.
London School of Economics and Political Science
The London School of Economics and Political Science was founded in 1895 and became a member college of the University of London in 1900. As of 2009, the school had about 3,800 undergraduates and 5,000 graduate students. The school offers three-year undergraduate programs, one- and two-year master's degree and diploma programs, and doctoral programs in more than 30 fields, including anthropology, economics, economic history, European studies, finance, public policy and sociology. In 2010, The Guardian ranked the London School of Economics fifth among U.K. universities, and the Times ranked it seventh.

University College London
University College London was founded in 1826 and is London's oldest institution of higher education. In 1836, University College London and King's College London became the first two institutions of the University of London, now a mega-university with more than 135,000 students at all its constituent campuses. UCL and King's College remain rivals today. UCL contains eight primary academic divisions: arts and humanities, biomedical sciences, engineering sciences, life sciences, mathematical and physical sciences, social and historical sciences, laws, and built environment. The Guardian ranked UCL sixth in its 2010 ranking of U.K. universities, and the Times ranked it fifth.

Imperial College London
Imperial College London was founded in 1907, and as of 2009 it had about 13,400 undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to its main campus in South Kensington, Imperial College London has campuses in Hammersmith, Silwood Park, Royal Brompton, Northwick Park, St. Mary's, Charing Cross, and Chelsea and Westminster. Its academic departments and research institutes are organized into five primary divisions---the Cross Faculty, the Imperial College Business School and the faculties of engineering, medicine and natural science. In 2010, Imperial College London was ranked third among U.K. universities by The Times and eighth by The Guardian.
