With more and more focus on nutritional health, the area of nutrition sciences has become one of the top growing career sectors.There is a demand for nutrition professionals in not only hospitals and care facilities but also in private sector corporations. This also means that more univerities offer degrees in this field of study.


University of Hawaii


The University of Hawaii, located in Honolulu offers bachelor's degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition. This is a science based degree with an emphasis in one of three chosen areas. Students can focus on dietetics, sports and wellness, or professional nutrition science. The dietetic program is approved by the American Dietetic Association and is geared toward those looking to work in the food industry. The sports and wellness program is taught in conjunction with courses in exercise science for people looking to join the food and fitness industry. The professional nutrition science program prepares students for further education and higher degrees in this field.


Arizona State University


Located in Tempe, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona State offers four areas of concentrated study in the field of nutrition. Students are taught a firm foundation in nutrition science coupling theory with hands-on experience. The four concentrations offered are Dietetics, Food and Nutrition Management, Human Nutrition and Nutrition Communication. The Dietetics concentration is designed for those looking to become a registered dietitian, and includes a semester-long field experience project where students work with other dietitians and clients. Graduates with a concentration in Food Nutrition and Management can seek a career in the food service industry and be able to apply nutrition principles to food production. The Human Nutrition concentration readies students for further graduate coursework. The Nutrition Communication program is taught in conjunction with the journalism department and prepares students as experts in the food and nutrition industry.








Southern Illinois University


Nestled in the southern region of Illinois, Southern Illinois University in Carbondale offers a degree in dietetics that prepares students for the registered dietitian exam. This course is accredited by the American Dietetic Association, and prepares students to help people with nutritional disorders, as well as preparing them for graduate coursework and a degree in nutritional sciences. Graduates who become registered dietitians can expect to find employment in the public health sector in addition to private businesses and industries.








Boston University


Boston, Massachusetts, is home to Boston University, which offers a bachelor of Nutritional Science. This program is part of the College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, giving students access to the wealth of knowledge from the research programs. Classes are kept small to give students individual attention. Boston University offers two concentrations, one in Nutritional Sciences and the other in Dietetics. The nutritional sciences option prepares students for further graduate study, whether in the fields of medicine or the other life sciences. The dietetics option prepares students to become a registered dietitian, a designation that is required for employment involving nutritional counseling.
