Graduate Programs In International Education

International education focuses on the relation of global issues and cross-cultural study to education.

International education is the study of global issues and cultures, particularly in relation to education practices. Graduate programs typically are offered in the educational schools or departments of colleges and universities, which grant master's or doctoral degrees in the field. Graduates of these programs pursue academic or research careers in the United States or internationally.

University of Massachusetts-Amherst

The University of Massachusetts in Amherst's School of Education offers a master's degree program in international education. The program prepares students for careers in policy and grassroots organizations, and focuses on bringing a global dimension to the U.S. education system. Some areas of concentration include: education in post-conflict settings; alternative approaches to teacher education and schooling; and education policy, planning and leadership. The program emphasizes cross-cultural study through the curriculum, research projects and community involvement.

Although the program is designed for professional educators to gain a greater understanding of globalization in relation to education, the program also welcomes students from other fields as well. It is offered completely online with no on-campus commitment, and students are able to interact with educators in other countries, in addition to participating in the school's study abroad program. The master's degree program consists of eight courses, typically taking two years to complete, and focuses on providing educators with an understanding of global technologies and youth cultures.
