Many students cannot afford the high cost of test prep classes offered for the LSAT. Instead, they opt to study on their own, often using software to help guide their preparations. Preparing with software can be more flexible than studying with a class. Students can move at their own paces and work at times they find convenient.
Instructions
1. Evaluate your weaknesses. Many LSAT prep programs offer free online tests to analyze your skills and help you focus on the areas in which you need the most help.
2. Check what the software includes. A good test prep package should have both sample tests and lessons to help you improve on those tests.
3. Select software that will work with your computer. Many LSAT software options run only on PCs. However, many are capable of running on older systems if you do not have access to newer platforms.
4. Get software alone or in combination with other coursework. A number of companies that offer test prep courses also offer software, both as companions and as replacements for their courses.
5. Beware that the LSAT is subject to change on a yearly basis, and older software may not adequately prepare students for the current version of the test.
6. Compare the test prep software to the sample-test materials posted by the Law School Admission Council (see Resources below). Practice materials that are very different from the actual test can harm your score in the long run because you will be unfamiliar with the format during your actual test.
7. Purchase a software package that specifically addresses your weaker areas. Some focus on teaching you to answer questions in less time while others review the base material.
