Peace Corp Requirements

The Peace Corps have been around since 1960. The Peace Corps website says "Senator John F. Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries." Since then, volunteers for the Peace Corps have visited many countries to bring knowledge on different topics such as AIDS and the environment.

Age

To join the Peace Corps, you must be at least 18 years old. There is no maximum age limit. Their oldest member was 86 years old.

Languages

Although it may seem like a requirement, you do not need to know any other languages other than English. It would be helpful, but it is not necessary.

College

A four-year degree is not needed to be accepted, but it will give you a better chance. Community college can get you qualified for certain programs in the Peace Corps.

Work Experience

Depending on the program you would like to get into, work experience in that particular field is helpful. It will help you qualify for the program you are interested in joining.

Citizenship

To join the Peace Corps, you must be a U.S. citizen. This is one area that is absolute. You cannot join unless you are a citizen of the United States.
