For many incoming college freshman students and their families, scholarships are essential to paying for school. Many are looking for this money, but every year, many scholarships go unclaimed. There are hundreds of thousands of scholarships available for incoming college students. Remember that new scholarships are constantly surfacing, so keep searching and applying. Ayn Rand Essay Contest Scholarships








This essay scholarship requires candidates to write an essay on a given title by author Ayn Rand. The annual contests offer prize money for incoming college freshmen for essays on the books "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged." There are a number of prizes for each contest, ranging from $50 to $10,000.


Flash Card Scholarship


You can find scholarships in many different places; just know where to search.


This scholarship asks that applicants submit a brief application and a video of flash card destruction. The Flash Card Scholarship encourages students to rebel against these conventional studying devices and find other more creative ways of studying. The prize is $500.


College Prowler No Essay Scholarship


College Prowler provides another atypical scholarship application. Instead of a traditional essay submission, the company asks that you submit a brief form with basic information. College Prowler will notify winners on their Facebook pages. There are many deadlines throughout the year for a prize of $2,000.


Best Buy @15 Scholarship


Best Buy awards a number of scholarships each year to students who plan to attend college. According to the company, scholarships are awarded for "academic achievements, volunteer efforts, and work experience." Applications are available every January. Scholarship prizes vary, but in the past, Best Buy has provided $1,000 scholarships each for 1,000 college-bound students around the country and Puerto Rico.


Horatio Alger Scholarship


The Horatio Alger Foundation provides scholarships for high school seniors who have "faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives." The Foundation provides scholarships in most of the 50 states and also an overall national scholarship. Students must be in critical financial need, demonstrate a commitment to academics, and participate in community activities. The scholarships range up to $20,000 each.
