Understand The Benefits Of All Girls Schools

While your daughter may not be interested in attending an all girls' school, you may want to consider this option. Single sex schools are gaining popularity as new research has emerged which suggests that girls and boys learn differently. Furthermore, this research is also suggesting that single-sex schools provide many benefits to the girls who attend them. To discover the benefits of attending all girls' schools consider the following steps.

Instructions

1. Read the books, "Girls Will Be Girls: Raising Confident and Courageous Daughters," "Girls and Boys in School: Together or Separate?" and "All Girls: Single-Sex Education and Why It Matters." The first book, by JoAnne Deak, provides insight into the factors that are necessary to raise a daughter who excels and feels secure. The book also highlights differences between the brains of girls and boys. The second book, by Cornelius Riordan, reviews research on the benefits of single sex-schooling. The third book, by Karen Stabiner, also points to the benefits of all girls' schools.

2. Contact the National Coalition of Girls' Schools. You can call them at (978) 287-4485 or go to their website. They can provide you with a list of local girls' schools as well as a plethora of information about the benefits of attending a girls' school.

3. Visit at least three of the schools on the list provided by the National Coalition of Girls' Schools. By touring these schools you will be able to see the benefits for yourself.

4. Ask the administration at the schools you visit if you can talk to some of the staff and students. They will be able to give you qualitative accounts of their experiences which are often more detailed and helpful than statistics.

5. Contact parents of students attending all girls' schools. Parents will also be able to provide valuable insight regarding how the single-sex education has affected their daughter.

6. Review some of the prominent research regarding the benefits of single-sex education. This research can be found at the National Coalition of Girls' Schools website.
