Upgrade A Norelco Lithium Ion Battery

Upgrade your Norelco razor by soldering in new batteries.

The convenience of a Norelco razor powered by a lithium ion battery is that the battery is rechargeable. However, batteries lose their charge potential over time. With some specialized modifications, owners of a Norelco electric shaver can upgrade the battery themselves. The procedure requires opening the razor, removing the old batteries, and soldering in new ones. If performed successfully, the Norelco razor owner will experience the benefit of new, longer-lasting lithium ion batteries.

Instructions

1. Obtain a new pair of lithium ion batteries. Do not attempt to replace them with nickel cadmium or some other type of battery.

2. Unscrew the back of the case and remove the two screws. Open the case and pull out the two metal brackets. Take out the white plastic guard covering the old batteries.

3. Locate the two batteries. They are soldered to the circuit board tabs and held down with tape. Pull away the tape and unsolder the tabs or use a razor or utility knife to sever them from the tabs. Do not cut away so much of the metal tabs that you won't have any surface area with which to solder in the new batteries.

4. Take out the old batteries. Seat the upgrade batteries in place, and solder them to the remaining piece of the metal tabs where the old batteries were attached. Be careful to maintain the same orientation of the old pair of batteries, keeping the positive and negative ends in their respective positions.

5. Put back the bracket and fasten the case with the two screws.
