Become A Jcpenney Model

The modeling world is full of rejection, so be persistent to land a gig.

JCPenney is one of the best places to begin a modeling career. While most of the company's catalogs use modeling agencies to place models, stores usually use local talent for fashion shows. Dress nicely, and set out with your portfolio and photos to land a job modeling for the company.

Instructions

1. Call the administrative offices of your local JCPenney store. Ask the operator where the company finds its models for in-store and mall fashion shows. If you are told that the company uses a modeling agency, ask what modeling agency it is. If you are told that the store casts models itself, request information about how you can be considered. If the operator says he doesn't know where the models come from, ask to speak with someone who does. Be persistent.

2. Approach the casting director or modeling agency that hires the models for JCPenney. Dress naturally and do not wear a lot of makeup. Express interest in modeling specifically for JCPenney. Be ambitious and ask questions to find out the criteria you must meet to model for the company.

3. Keep your eye on newspaper ads and event calendars--especially mall event calendars--regarding fashion shows. When you see an announcement for a JCPenney fashion show or a fashion show that JCPenney is participating in, approach the company hosting the fashion show and ask how you can model for JCPenney. Someone there should be able to point you in the right direction.

4. Submit your photos to modeling agencies that focus on commercial looks for catalogs. Most large retail stores use the better-known agencies, such as Ford and Elite, to locate their models. These agencies have casting calls usually once per month, but it is quite difficult to obtain representation from them. Visit the JCPenney website for a list of the modeling agencies used.

5. JCPenney often has model competitions at a local and a national level. Keep your eye on any announcements for these types of contests. Enter them when you find out about them. Remain positive and take advantage of the opportunity to have a chance to model for JCPenney.

Tips Warnings

Try to get a modeling agent, specifically one of the agents listed on the JCPenney website.

Start with a smaller store to gain experience modeling.

Breaking into modeling is difficult, especially for a major retailer such as JCPenney. If this is something that you really want to do, learn to take rejection, stay on course and be persistent.
