Honeywell r8184g lockout wont reset

Honeywell R8184G lockout won't reset!

The operation of my fuel oil furnace more closely resembles an oil fired boiler than a gas furnace, so I'm posting my question here! I replaced my old electro/mechanical Honeywell R8184G oil burner control relay after the relay contacts burned away after 30 years! The new electronic R8184G4009 worked just fine until my tenants increased the flame airflow, making the flame too dim for reliable CAD cell verification (they have been politely admonished). I readjusted the airflow, and got the unit working. That night, operation again became unreliable, which resulted in their doing a multiple reset without the relay completing a normal cycle, and now the lockout apparently cannot be reset. The reset button feels normal, and the lockout indicator LED goes out, but the relay never closes on a heat call, so there is no power on the orange wire to the burner motor. I bypassed the relay and verified normal burner operation, and reset the airflow again using an ohm meter on the CAD cell, adjusting for lowest resistance (it was off quite a bit). I am convinced the new controller is more sensitive to CAD cell resistance, requiring more accurate adjustments. However, as I stated, I cannot reset the control to normal operation. I have read somewhere that there is a safety lockout built into this control which prevents it from being reset normally after 3 unsuccessful resets (and no completed normal cycles). There is a specific procedure to be used to service reset this unit, but I can't find the procedure now. Something like a jumper on the T-T or F-F connections, and hold the reset in for 30 seconds? Can anyone verify this? Thanks! (It's supposed to get into the 30's tonight) I might be a little late here but time is tight these days. I don't think there is any special reset required on the 8184. It sounds like your F terminals are shorted or something in the cad cell wiring is shorted. Take one of the wires off of the F terminal and see if it tries to start. It won't try to start if the F terminals are shorted and it won't stay running if they are open. Hope that makes sense and gives you something to look for. Ken
