Kitcheaid dishwasher door spring

Kitcheaid Dishwasher door spring?

Hi, We have a Kitchenaid Superba dishwasher; don't have the model # handy, but it's the one with no visible controls, as they're on the top edge of the stainless steel door, which is otherwise adorned with only a big stainless steel handle (Arkitecture, I think they call it). Anyway, I've never been all that happy with this $1100 dishwasher; it's louder that I thought it would be, and doesn't clean or dry dishes all that great. I wish I had bought an $800 Bosch. I mention this because I'm not eager to spend the $100+ for a service call, and I'm hoping that this new problem is D-I-Y. The door now justs falls open, as if a spring that once dampened that action has let go. I could tinker around with taking the door apart etc., but has anyone done this already? Thanks in advance, and Happy Holidays! Since you have not gotten any relplies yet, but a lot of peeks, I have replaced them but it's been a while. Nobody taught me. It is something doable where you visually look and and determine what has to come off to do it. It helps to be a mechanically inclined person when you do not always know exact how-to's. By removing the bottom toe-kick panel may reveal something. We already know that that spring connecting the door can't be just attached to the door - and likely goes to the frame part of the unit itself. Then you just have to figure out what to unscrew. Some of these things are elaborate with a cable and pulley system. Thanks ecman, I'm up to 85 views and still just your one reply. I found THIS schematic on the web, which shows two door hinges ($50+ each), and THIS one, which shows one $15 spring, but doesn't clearly indicate where it connects. I've determined that my model # is kuds01flss0. Any further advice anyone? Have you made ANY attempt at opening up what you can tell needs to be opened up? If you do, it might be apparent to you go about it. I doubt too many people are going to be able to say: You remove the left door chrome 3 screws, then tilt back the strip, then hold down on this plate while you...etc., etc. Does this help ? http://www.applianceaid.com/lookup.html Also founf a parts breakdown on : http://www.vvapplianceparts.com/launchIPL.php Problem solved; THIS schematic showed the stupid part, a string with fused-on plastic parts at each end. I had to disconnect the water supply line in order to get at the spring, and after getting it onto the dishwasher and getting the water turned back on, I had the clogged faucet from hll, so I started THIS new thread. Thanks for everyone's help.
