Several scholarship programs are available to Texas nursing students from a variety of organizations, including state professional organizations, community foundations, the Texas state government and degree-granting institutions. Some scholarships and educational grants for Texas nursing students may be limited to residents of Texas or specific geographical areas of Texas.
Good Samaritan Foundation
Since 1951, the Good Samaritan Foundation has awarded more than 14 million dollars to nursing students in the state of Texas. To be eligible, an applicant must be a resident of Texas and attending school within the state, must be a United States citizen and must be planning to work as a nurse in Texas after graduation. Good Samaritan Foundation nursing scholarships are available to students pursuing all levels of degrees, from a Licensed Vocational Nurse to a Ph.D. in nursing. Scholarships are valued at $500 or $1,000.
Texas Professional Nursing Scholarship
The state government of Texas offers tuition assistance to nursing students through the Texas Professional Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded in amounts of up to $2,500. To be eligible, an applicant must be a resident of Texas, must be enrolled on at least a half-time basis and must have demonstrable financial need. Texas Professional Nursing Scholarships are available to students pursuing both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Applicants must be attending a Texas college or university.
University of Texas Health Science Center
Students at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston offers a variety of scholarships to attending students. To be eligible, students must be enrolled on at least a half-time basis. In addition, undergraduate students must have a GPA of at least 2.0 and graduate students must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Some available scholarships are limited to applicants who are residents of a certain geographical area, or to students of a specific gender or ethnicity.
University of Texas at Austin
Nursing students at the University of Texas in Austin may be eligible for scholarship support through the Texas Nursing Association District 5 Scholarship Program. This scholarship program is available to both undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate students with a GPA of at least 2.5 may be eligible for a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 or $2,000. Graduate applicants with a GPA of at least 3.0 may be eligible for scholarship assistance of up to $3,000.
