Graphic design is the combination of art and technology to communicate ideas.
The study of graphic design teaches students how art and technology can combine to creatively communicate ideas for personal or business purposes. Colleges are available throughout the United States that offer programs in graphic design and prepare students for entry into a graphic design career such as Web design or programming.

East Carolina University's School of Art and Design offers a graphic design program at the undergraduate level, leading students to the completion of a bachelor of fine arts degree. Courses include communication arts survey, graphic design, concepts in communication arts, advanced typography, photography survey and advanced graphic design. Elective courses include printmaking survey, advanced interactive media, digital 3D animation and introduction to digital 3D modeling and animation.

Collins College has a graphic design program that gives students the option to earn an associate of arts degree or a bachelor of arts degree upon completion. Depending on the division, the bachelor's degree program can be completed in as little as 38 months of study. In this program, students learn about color theory, typography and production techniques.

California State University at Sacramento has a graphic design program that offers students comprehensive instruction spanning from the basic principles of graphic design to the final production of graphic design. Upon completion of this program, students earn a bachelor of science degree. The required courses within this program include an introduction to digital design, visualization, visual basics, visual principles, design production and management, time-based graphic design and digital portfolio.

Georgia State University
Georgia State University has a graphic design program that leads to the completion of a bachelor of arts degree in studio. Students can expect to complete the major portion of this degree in three years; students may not, however, begin the concentration courses during the spring or summer semesters since most of the courses that are in this major are only offered once per academic year. Courses in this program include two-dimensional design, introductory studio, introduction to graphic design, intermediate graphic design and print and editorial design.
