You're a graduate student hoping to find a good full-time job. You need to communicate your message to your potential employer. You have learned a lot at school and hope you can develop a resume that shows all your skills. Use these tips to write a resume as a graduate student.
Instructions
1. Type your name, address and phone number at the top of the resume. Use a large font for your name so it stands out on the page.
2. Demonstrate your skills for the job by describing each skill in detail and explaining how it relates to the job at hand. Use active verbs to describe these skills.
3. Put your education near the top of your resume if it is your best asset. Mention your thesis if it's relevant to the job you want. Include all your academic skills and experience. Mention any publications you have.
4. Decide which type of resume you prefer. You can write a chronological, functional or targeted resume.
5. Choose a chronological resume if you have work or volunteer work experience that will impress an employer. This resume presents your experience in chronological order from current to past experience. List your job title, name of company and duties you performed.
6. Write a functional resume if you want to highlight your work instead of the dates or companies. List your work experience with your abilities and accomplishments under each job heading. You don't need to include dates.
7. Write a targeted resume if you have a specific job in mind because your skill set will target the job. Pick a job target or object for your resume. List your abilities and achievements.
