1. Contact your state department of human resources and find out what you need to do to get the ball rolling on your quest to open a preschool. The state department should be able to advise you on things like licensing requirements, training, background checks and building codes.
2. Write a business plan. Even if you’re the only one who will see your business plan, writing one will keep you from getting sidetracked, and help you meet your goals faster.
3. Select a location for your preschool program. Most state licensing agencies have minimum space requirements for each child, so you will need to choose your location based on the number of preschoolers you want to have enrolled in your program.
4. Make a budget, and stick to it. Decide how much money you have to spend on startup materials such as building rentals, learning materials, toys, cots, tables, and chairs. After you determine how much money you can afford to spend, start purchasing the things you need to furnish your preschool program.
5. Hire enough qualified teachers to help with the day to day operations of your preschool. State regulations often place stipulations on the number of preschoolers that can be assigned to one adult., o you will have to hire your employees based on those recommendations.
6. Figure out a way to drive business to your preschool program. Fliers, open houses, business cards, radio announcements and word of mouth are all wonderful ways to increase your enrollment.
