Writing an Awesome College Essay

1. Be honest in everything you write. Admissions professionals can see through an essay that's contrived and untrue. Believe in what you write, and write what you believe. Although you should make a lasting impression with your work, don't let it be a unfavorable impression the reader is left with. It's easy to embellish your credentials. Don't do it. Technology is advanced and there are ways of checking each item out. If you're caught lying, be sure you won't be attending that school.

2. Be timely - Use a current event topic or some other relation that shows the reader you know what's happening in the world. For example, you may compare your leadership styles to that of Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. No matter who you choose, you're showing your a leader and a well rounded educated individual with a genuine interest in worldly events.

3. Use a spell/grammar check - Even the best written piece quickly becomes trash when it's riddled with errors. Check your spelling twice if you need to. Edit your grammar or have someone else do it. Taking the extra time to review your essay for mistakes will make your essay shine among your competition.

4. If the college/university issues a topic, answer the question - Don't ignore a topic they give and substitute your generic essay in hopes no one will notice. Higher level colleges and universities will sometimes give a specific topic for your essay. In that case, research it as best you can and stick to the topic as much as possible.

5. Do the work yourself - DO NOT plagarize or steal someone else's work because you believe it's easier that way. One surefire tactic to ensure no acceptance letters come your way is to plagarize a college essay. With new plagiarism detection applications, it's easy to determine whether the work is yours or someone else's.
