Get Free Education As A Senior Citizen

You can bloom as a senior

Senior citizens are usually considered to be that group of men and women over 60 years old. Many still work, and with the loss of jobs, there are some who are looking for more education for a new position. There are also seniors who want to keep in touch with education, keep their minds sharp, or who just love to learn.

There are free or inexpensive learning opportunities available for seniors, but many do not know how they exist.

Instructions

1. Search the internet for free education for seniors. Many colleges and universities allow seniors to attend with free tuition if space allows. Some also give college credit for the coursework. This is a great way to get back into the job market, or improve skills or even meet friends.

2. Locate information for your area and for your state, unless you want to take coursework in another state or close to relatives. There are some resources listed below to help get started with a search for free education for senior citizens. There are also colleges and universities that have scholarships for seniors only that will cover full tuition. Check these, too.

3. Apply to the different places you choose, and submit any documents they require. Wait for approval.

4. Contact the Registrar or any local campus group for seniors to learn the opportunities available. You may find free education for seniors at the local community college or university.

5. Check out Elderhostel. Elderhostel is a travel group for seniors that promotes education along the way. They also have scholarships for seniors, so if you like to travel and learn as you go, this may be great to try.

6. Investigate online coursework. If you are home bound and like the internet, you may find online courses with free tuition for seniors. If you locate something of interest, ask about free tuition for seniors, and ask about scholarships for seniors that will cover tuition.

7. Contact Continuing Education groups in your community. They offer coursework that may be free to seniors, or they sometimes have scholarships. If you find a class you like, contact the instructor and see if there are free opportunities for seniors in the class.
