Political Science Summer Programs

Political Science majors can work during the summer at the CIA in Washington, D.C.


Political Science is the study of government, political systems and political thought, and it is the preferred subject of study for people wishing to enter public service. Summer study opportunities abound whether you wish to enroll in summer courses to earn credits towards your degree, gain international experience or find a summer job related to your field.








London School of Economics and Political Science Summer School


The London School of Economics and Political Science Summer School is the largest summer school geared towards university students in the United Kingdom. The program has been in existence since 1989. In 2009, more than 3,500 students from around the world attended. Courses are offered in a variety of areas relating to Political Science, including Accounting, Finance, Law, Economics, International Relations, Government and Society, and Management. Choose between two three-week sessions---or opt to attend both.

Central Intelligence Agency


The Central Intelligence Agency offers a summer internship program for Political Science majors. Students admitted into this highly competitive program receive insight into the workings of America's administrative intelligence hub. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students with foreign language skills, international experience and military experience are especially suited for the program. In addition, students are paid for their work. Housing is not provided, but the CIA can assist you in finding a place to stay in Washington, D.C., for the duration of the summer program.

The Junior Statesmen Summer School


The Junior Statesmen Summer School offers high school students the opportunity to undertake advanced classes in political science at three of the country's most prestigious universities: Princeton, Georgetown and Stanford. As of 2010, there is also a program offered in Beijing. In addition to taking courses, students get the opportunity to interact with leading politicians, journalists and academics. Students may be able to apply their coursework to their credits towards high school graduation. During the summer school, students are housed in single sex dorms with students taking the same courses. The program has been in existence for more than 75 years.
