Phd Theatre Programs

Study theatre at one of the most distinguished theatre capitals in the world.

Students in Ph.D. theatre programs want to gain all that they can from their experience. The following schools are all located in New York City, which is known as the top location for theatre performances in the United States. Studying at a New York City school provides students with distinct professors who are well studied in their field. Students find themselves in close proximity to the theatre district and Broadway shows.

Columbia University

Columbia University is a unique school located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan on the Morningside Heights campus. According to Columbia University, students learn "to familiarize themselves with the prevailing traditions of Western and non-Western drama, theatre, and performance scholarship, as well as to identify a specific trajectory of individual research" in the Ph.D. program in theatre. Graduates have achieved tenure-track careers at top schools including Stanford, Princeton, Boston University, Indiana University, King's College London, and The University of Texas at Austin.
