If you are a teacher, or you simply have a bachelor's degree, you can earn a graduate degree in education. Getting a graduate degree in education can open doors for you in the field of education, from renewing your teaching license to getting a raise and applying for higher positions. Get your graduate degree in education online or through a ground-based university.
Instructions
1. Find a local college or university that offers a program you want to pursue. If you already have a bachelor's degree in a specific subject area but you just want to add a teaching license and education courses, then you might pursue a simple Master of the Arts in Teaching program. If you already have a teaching license, then you might want to pursue a degree in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Leadership (especially if you are interested in administrative jobs in the future).
If you don't want to attend classes at a local school, several universities offer online degree programs in education.
2. Check the school's admission requirements. In most cases, you will at least need to submit transcripts from your other colleges and universities, showing the degrees you have earned and your grade-point averages. Some schools may also require you to take and pass the Graduate Requisite Exam, which is a test of general knowledge that is often used as an admission requirement for graduate programs.
3. Complete all of your educational requirements. Each degree program will have a variety of classes for you to take, ranging from educational theory to curriculum development and educational psychology. You may also take specific courses related to leadership, child development, or a specific subject area methodology. In a graduate program, most schools will require you to pass each course with at least a "C" grade (usually a 2.0 grade-point average); others may even require you to maintain a 3.0 or higher grade-point average.
4. Complete any additional requirements, such as student teaching or field observation. If you are already working as an active teacher, then you can usually substitute your work experience for these requirements. If you have never taught before, however, then your graduate program may require you to complete some type of field experience before you can earn your degree.
