Get A Scholarship To One Of Scotland'S Best Universities

There are a number of highly prestigious universities to be found within Scotland, both ancient and modern. Students from all over the world come to the country each year, many of whom apply for scholarships. As such, gaining a scholarship to study at one of these institutions is very difficult and highly competitive. However, it is possible; here's how.

Instructions

1. Select which University you wish to attend. Traditionally, St. Andrews, Glasgow and Edinburgh were considered Scotland's best universities. However, nowadays where is best for you will depend upon what subject you wish to study.

2. Determine whether you wish to undertake Undergraduate or Postgraduate studies. There are far fewer scholarships available for undergraduate study; indeed almost none at all. In order to qualify for a scholarship you will generally need to have already gained your undergraduate degree and wish to undertake postgraduate study.

3. Attain high grades, both at High School and in your undergraduate degree. Most scholarships are awarded largely on grounds of academic merit, meaning your chances of success will be much higher if you have an impressive academic record.

4. Do as much as you can outwith your studies. Scholarships will often be awarded with consideration given to how "well-rounded" an individual is, rather than solely upon his or her academic merit. Furthermore, an impressive list of extra-curricular undertakings may make up for a less than flawless academic record.

5. Be ready to provide evidence as to your financial situation. Many scholarships are only open to those who demonstrate hardship.

6. Have a number of people who will act as reference for your application. Their input will on occasion be crucial to the success of your application. Inform them they can expect to be contacted and questioned closely.

7. Go to the websites of the Universities you are interested in attending. These websites will be your primary source of information regarding possible scholarship opportunities.

8. Find a link titled something like "prospective students", or "Postgraduate". You will then be able to find a link titled something like "financial advice" or "scholarships", which will list the scholarships offered for study at the institution.

9. Consult with your chosen University directly and contact the apartment in which you wish to study. They will be able to give you information regarding possible scholarship opportunities.

10. Demonstrate the full range of your abilities on both your application form and in any possible interviews. Organisations which offer scholarships to attend university are looking for students who will represent them well, and who deserve their financial help.

11. Check with your home institution whether they offer any specific scholarships for study in Scotland, or the UK.

12. Look especially for scholarships aimed at your specific nationality. You will have a greater chance of success with such a scholarship, as the field of possible applicants will be much smaller.
