Prepare For The Ged

Don't let your lack of a high school diploma hold you back from pursuing further education or career advancement. Here's prepare for the General Educational Development (GED) exam and get ahead.

Instructions

1. Find out if you're eligible. You may take the test if you are at least 18 years old, are not a high school graduate, and are not enrolled in a secondary school.

2. Learn about the test. There are five sections (one writing-skills essay and four multiple choice sections) and each section is timed. To obtain your GED, you must earn a minimum of 225 points for all five tests and at least 40 points on each of the five.

3. Enroll in a GED preparation program. There are many low-cost or free preparation programs offered by state and local government agencies. Many courses are offered in the evening and on weekends for working students.

4. Develop your strategy for the tests. Each question on the multiple choice tests has equal value so try not to spend too much time on any one question.

5. Practice. Write some sample essays and answer practice questions from each section of the test before you take it to become familiar with the format and types of questions.

6. Good luck! You're on your way to getting your high school diploma, and where you go from there is limitless.
