So, you've decided you want to go to grad school. You've also discovered that you need to pass the GRE Computer Science test to get into the program that you want. The test has about 70 multiple-choice questions on software systems and methodology, computer organization, architecture and theory. With time and study, you can pass the test and take the next step into your future. Read on to learn how.

Instructions

Prepare for the Test

1. Register early. Taking the test early allows plenty of time for your test scores to reach your college or university before any deadline.

2. Download the sample test. It is available online and will guide you through your preparation for the GRE Computer Science test.

3. Complete the sample test. This will give you a clear picture of which areas you need to review before taking the actual test.

4. Join a class or study group. Online and in-person classes are often available to help you prepare for the GRE Computer Science test. Ask your local university for help in finding one.

Study for the Test

5. Review computer systems and methodology. This makes up about 35 percent of the test. Look at data organization, programming languages and systems.

6. Expect about 14 questions on computer organization and architecture. Review processors, memory and communication.

7. Study computer theory. This five percent of the GRE Computer Science test will cover language theory, algorithms and program correctness.

8. Practice your math. Elementary graph theory and counting arguments will appear on the test as well as number theory, computer arithmetic and linear algebra.

9. Remember the test includes a few questions on other topics also. Numerical analysis, artificial intelligence, computer graphics and social issues could be included on the test.

Take the Test

10. Sleep well. As far as it is possible, get a good night's sleep the night before the test. Go to bed on time and try to relax.

11. Eat a good breakfast. You won't be able to concentrate on the computer science test if your stomach is growling, so give yourself enough time to have a healthy breakfast.
