Make Hippie Clothes From Old Clothes

With just a few tweaks you can go from modern to hippie.

Transforming your old clothes into hippie attire (or another style) is an ideal way of getting more use from your fashions before recycling or disposing of them for good. Making a hippie outfit from your current wardrobe is possible with a bit of planning and some creativity in designing the look. Because the hippie style will vary with the type of clothing you have available, searching other outlets will help to put together the ideal hippie outfit by using only old clothes.

Instructions

1. Gather all of the old clothes that you would like to use to create a new hippie outfit. Lay the clothing and accessories out on your bed or another flat surface to have a visual of all of your available options.

2. Create your own tie-dye mixture and use traditional blouses and garments to give each of them a hippie feel designed with various colors. Use online resources such as Dharma Trading for free instructions and guides on various forms of tie-dying.

3. Cut long-sleeved jackets to create worn-looking vests by removing the sleeves with scissors, creating a vintage look to wear over another shirt or blouse.

4. Wear bell bottom jeans or flare-styled jeans that have wide openings at the ankles. Purchase and sew craft beads and designs into the sides of your jeans, including colorful flowers or peace signs.

5. Use fabric fashion belts (with colorful patterns and themes) as headbands, covering your bangs and securing them into place at the back of your head by tying a knot.

6. Mix and match necklaces, bracelets and other jewelry accessories by adding layers of jewelry to your outfit. Instead of a simple necklace, wear pearls, chains and chunky plastic jewelry together to create a hippie look. Wear multiple rings on each finger, mixing colors, themes and patterns.
