NCIC includes data on individuals who have committed misdemeanors and felonies.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation manages the National Crime Information Center, or NCIC. The NCIC was formed in 1967 and maintains an extensive database of crime data. As of 2011, there were 15 million crime records in the database. Law-enforcement agencies throughout the United States have access to these records. However, individuals may also obtain an NCIC report if the database contains information about them.
Instructions
1. Contact your local law enforcement agency. Local law enforcement agencies such as the police department, sheriff's department and state police have access to the NCIC database. Tell the agency's staff that you want a copy of your NCIC report.
2. Show law enforcement personnel a valid ID. Examples of valid ID include your driver's license, Social Security card or passport. The law enforcement agency will also fingerprint you.
3. Using your fingerprints, law enforcement will locate your criminal record. The agency will print a copy of your report for you.
