copper-to-cpvc

copper to cpvc

I am building a bathroom in my basement. The builders used copper water pipes and I would like to go the easier route of cpvc. I don't know how tight the compression transition fitting should be on the copper. You can adapt from cpvc to copper via two types of adaptors, one adaptor screws onto a copper male fitting looks kinda like this one The other one screws into a copper female adaptor looks kinda like this one These are called cpvc x threaded brass adaptors. You will need to sweat on either male or female copper fittings for the transitions. Here is an illustrated article on CPVC plumbing from Reader's Digest The Family Handyman magazine that might help you: http://www.familyhandyman.com/200007/cpvc/main.html Good Luck! Mike Use the male cpvc and female copper setup. It is a better arrangemnt. With the female cpvc you can easily over tighten and split the cpvc fitting. joed, Those adaptor I show, the female and male ends are brass threads. So either or will work. There is also a very usefull transition union that you solder to the copper side and glue to the cpvc side and it has a union nut and washer to seal the connection. It can be taken apart anytime to drain the pipes if necesary. thanks for all the info. i'm new to the forum so i don't know if this is the proper way to make thanks. the transition piece with brass fitting and cpvc female fitting worked out well for me. no leaks and the sweating 2 joints was much easier than 30! thanks again to all of you.
