If the slack in a single handle shower faucet is allowed to continue, it may progress to the point where you can freely spin the handle all the way around. The simple repair to the faucet handle should only take you a minimal amount of time. The faucet handle itself likely either needs to be tightened, or you need to make a simple adjustment to the valve stem that is underneath the handle.
Instructions
1. Lower the diverter control on the top of the tub spout, if there is one. This directs the flow of any water to the tub spout and not the shower head. Shut off the water to the house, from outside, to be certain of no water coming out of the shower while you work.
2. Raise the faucet handle up, to show the set screw near the bottom of the handle. Tighten this screw, using a hex wrench. If the faucet still has slack in it, proceed to Step 3.
3. Loosen the set screw with a hex wrench, and pull the handle off the valve stem underneath it. Wrap one loop of plumber's tape around the valve stem.
4. Slide the handle onto the valve stem. Tighten the set screw, using the hex wrench.
