Tools Of The Mathematician

Pure mathematics and applied mathematics are the two categories of mathematics that deal with properties, measurements and relationships of quantities by using symbols and numbers. Mathematicians use mathematic tools in expanding and clarifying theories, analyzing and solving problems affecting fields such as economics, physical science, engineering, physics and business.

Mathematical Theories

Various theories guide mathematicians on the working of calculations by providing a procedure they follow in solving mathematical problems, as long as the constants of the equation apply to the theory. For example, the Pythagorean theory provides a way of getting the third distance of a triangle provided the triangle is right angled and the other two sides are stated. The category theory is another example of a mathematical theory dealing with structures and their systems.

Algorithms

Algorithms are well-defined formulas or sets of steps that aid in solving mathematical problems through their application in calculation, data processing and automated reasoning. They are useful and essential to mathematicians that deal with fields of applied mathematics; for example, they use algorithms in forming codes for different electronic devices systems such as computer programs.

Computer Technology

Software developers design programs for computer systems using algorithms; logic theories and algorithms undergo encoding in software, ensuring effective operation of the computer by producing output from a given input.

Calculators

Calculators, either mechanical or electrical, perform arithmetic operations automatically by processing entered information and providing answers. Different calculators are available for different levels and categories of mathematics. For example, there are polynomial calculators, rational expressions calculators and radical expression calculators, all of which apply to basic and advanced mathematics.
