Tuition Grants For Women

Tuition grants give women a chance to pay for college and increase their earning potential

The United Stated General Accounting Office reported, as recently as October of 2003, that women still lag behind men in earnings, with women earning only three-fourths of what men earn. In the effort to help close this earning gap, there are a number of tuition grants accessible to college bound women, both to provide funds for college and to ultimately increase their earning potential.

American Association of University Women Career Development Grant

Women who have completed one stage of their educational journey but need assistance in order to move forward to the next stage, should apply for the American Association of University Women Career Development Grant. The Career Development Grant provides support to women who have earned an undergraduate degree and who wish to advance their careers, change their careers or return to work. The Career Development Grant extends financial assistance for tuition and related fees and expenses.

Kirsten R. Lorentzen Award

Some fields of study have a disproportionately low number of women. For example, women are not found in large numbers in fields such as science or mathematics. For women who are majoring in fields such as physics, including space physics, geophysics and geoscience, the Association for Women in Science offers financial assistance. Candidates for the award must be college sophomores or juniors, and must be studying physics or geoscience.

International Federation of University Women Fellowships and Grants

Some tuition grants are for international study. The International Federation of University Women offers fellowships and grants to women who are studying outside of the country in which they were educated, and a country other than the one in which they reside. Women who apply for these awards must be members of the International Federation of University Women's national federations and associations, or International Federation of University Women independent members. The awards are for use in educational programs beyond the graduate level.

ExxonMobil Grants for Women and Girls

Some large corporations have formed partnerships with educational institutions to provide financial assistance to students in need. ExxonMobil works collaboratively with a number of different colleges and universities around the world for the express purpose of assisting women and girls in their growth and development through education. The financial awards are provided by the school where the student will be enrolled, thus candidates are encouraged to check with the institution which they will be attending for more details on the award.
