Restring Levolor Blinds

Levolor is a company that makes a wide variety of shades including cellular, wood, faux wood or mini blinds. After continued use, the string on Levolor shades may begin to wear out and need to be replaced. It is often more economical to repair blinds yourself rather than purchasing a separate unit or paying a company to repair them. It just takes a few basic materials to restring your Levolor horizontal blinds and restore them to proper working condition.

Instructions

Restringing Levolor Blinds

1. Remove the blinds from the metal brackets on the wall. Untie the knot in the cord under the bottom rail or snip it with scissors.

2. Lay the blinds on an even surface and unwind the cord from all the openings in the slats.

3. Place the old string next to the new one and use it to guide you in cutting the new string to the right length.

4. Thread the new string through the opening in a sewing needle. Push the needle through the space in the cord lock in the head rail and pull through the head rail. Feed the string through the openings in the slats.

5. Shove the needle and string through the hole in the bottom rail. Make a knot in the end of the string under the rail. Cut the excess cord off with scissors.

6. Hook the blinds back on the wall in the brackets and check that it hangs evenly.

Restringing Levolor Cellular Blinds

7. Slide the bottom and head rails off the end of the fabric away from the cord lock. Stack the fabric on top of each other. Remove the washer and cord from the fabric. Throw away the string, but keep the other parts.

8. Cut the string with scissors and each cord should be as long as twice the shade and plus the width.

9. Feed the string through the hole of a needle and push the needle through the hole in the cord lock and then through the holes in the fabric stack. Shove it through the cord lock hole in the bottom.

10. Place a plastic washer on the end of each cord and tie the string underneath it in a large knot. Replace this onto the bottom of the shade and the filler strip that runs on the bottom. Slide the head rail on the filler strip and stuff the cords underneath it.

11. Hang the shade back on the brackets on the wall.

Tips Warnings

Consult the manufacturer if you are unsure which string width to use in your blinds because they come in varying sizes.
