Throw An Educational Kids Christmas Party

Give children a new reason to celebrate the holidays by throwing an educational Christmas Around the World themed party. Children will learn to understand and appreciate different customs around the world.

Instructions

Food and decorations

1. Pick several countries and research how they celebrate Christmas. When doing your research, consider holiday traditions, Santa Claus, customs, food, decorations, and music.

2. Buy or make your own invitations. Keep the world theme by choosing cards that have international graphics such as the map of the world, the Earth, or Merry Christmas written in different languages.

3. Make several dishes from around the world that are typically served during Christmas time. Set them on a buffet table with place cards indicating which country the dish came from.

4. Decorate the party by using Christmas images from around the world. Examples: Holland--wooden shoe, Mexico--a Poinsettia, Germany--a wreath

5. Prepare a CD of Christmas music from around the world. Make enough copies to give as Christmas gifts to your guests.

Christmas Activities

6. Play Christmas Around the World musical chairs with the Christmas CD from different countries. It is played just like regular musical chairs but if the person left without a chair can guess what country the music is from, he/she gets his/her chair back.

7. Print out a map of each country being celebrated. On the back of the map, print kid friendly facts about that country. Give each kid a card and have them sit in a circle. Then one by one, have the children share what is on the back of their card.

8. Print Merry Christmas in several different languages along with the names of the countires that match the greetings. Pass both sets out. Have the children try to match themselves up by greeting and country.
